Purpose of today's meeting
- Today we initiate a series of January-March WE1S "interpretation workshops" intended to work out the steps of our topic model interpretation protocol. This will prepare us for interpretation exercises in April-June addressing actual research questions.
0. Preliminary Business
- UCSB required training modules for researchers
- Revised listing of WE1S participants in progress (edited by Giorgina)
- Upcoming all-hands meetings in winter quarter:
[Alan, from a Ryver post to the project management team]: For the meeting next week (Feb. 7th), I think that instead of doing another interpretation workshop right away we probably need for the purpose of project cohesion to touch bases with all our moving parts and teams, especially for three purposes: * coordinating some of the technical and optimization development projects with each other and incorporating them in our notebooks (and where relevant WMS); * envisioning with the benefit of what we learned in our Jan. 31 interpretation workshop how best to use some of the new vizs, etc.; * seeing if there are synergies we need to support between the several collection teams.
In any case, I think it would be more productive to wait on the next interpretation workshop until we're further along on such tasks as model optimization, automatic generation of multiple granularities, auto-labeling, etc.
- 10-11 am: all-hands discussion with Interpretation Lab team members working on various aspects of visualization, mapping, and model optimization, plus word embedding (including Dan, Sihwa, Cindy, Su, Fabian)
- 11-noon: all-hands discussion with the primary corpus collection and diverse populations collection teams; plus discussion with the students & humanities team about human subjects research plans
- Thur. Feb. 28th
- Thur. Mar. 14th
1. Interpretation Workshop (focused on "overview" analysis of a topic model)
